About The Great House
The Great House is set in the heart of the Kentish Countryside between the picturesque villages of Cranbrook and Hawkhurst. A beautiful 16th Century Pub, set within its own grounds, boasting a wealth of character, with exposed beams, roaring log fires and stone floors, creating a magical atmosphere in which to dine with colleagues, friends and family.
The Great House has three dining areas, together with a magnificent new Orangery, which is now licensed for Civil Ceremonies, and provides a perfect space for private dining. Opening out onto the Mediterranean style stone terrace, with Italian designer chairs, the Orangery over looks the stunning and perfectly manicured garden featuring both a beautiful herb garden and a Kentish lynch gate.
The food is fresh and seasonal and local suppliers are used wherever possible. Everything is prepared and cooked in house and to order. Dishes range from established favourites such as fish & chips, using fresh cod through to more exotic dishes such as ravioli of lobster or fresh Langoustine. There is a wonderful selection of 70 world wines and champagnes some of which come from the local Tenterden vineyard and 30 draught and bottled beers including San Miguel and Harveys.
Family dining is welcome and children can select from a healthy range of dishes. We do of course cater for vegetarians.
The Great House was voted Kent & Sussex Courier Newspaper Pub of the Year 2005 and it has just won a Smoke Free Award from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. The pub became no-smoking throughout from 1st May 2006 and is dedicated to providing a healthy environment for all its customers.
The Pub has a charming and informal atmosphere, this coupled with outstanding food and service is the perfect venue for those looking for a unique and intimate dining out experience.
